Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Administrator-in-Training Program

 

 

  1. How do I obtain an actual application for the Administrator-in-Training Program?
    First, you must download the Preliminary Data Form, complete it, and return it to the board’s office. Upon receipt of your Preliminary Data Form, the board will forward you a complete application.

     

  2. Is there a fee for the Administrator-in-Training Program?
    Yes, there is a $50.00 non-refundable fee to participate in the board-approved Administrator-in-Training Program.

     

  3. Can I enter the Administrator-in-Training Program if I hold an associate degree?
    No, you must have a baccalaureate degree or a master’s degree to begin the Administrator-in-Training Program.

     

  4. How can I find a preceptor?
    You may find a preceptor by calling facilities within your area and arranging an interview with the administrator.

     

  5. Are internships paid?
    Internships may or may not be paid. This is strictly between the administrator and the administrator-in-training.

     

  6. What is considered a full-time internship?
    The internship must be under the full-time supervision of a licensed nursing home administrator (a minimum of 35 hours per week). Normally, a monthly schedule of internship hours should not exceed 180 hours per month, with some allowances made for extra hours served to make up for time spent at the Core of Knowledge course during internship months.

     

  7. When do I take the Core of Knowledge?
    The Core of Knowledge course may be completed before, during, or after the internship. However, if a student attends the Core of Knowledge during the internship period, the time must be made up.
    • The Core of Knowledge Course may be completed before, during, or after the internship.  Both the Core and the internship must be completed and properly documented before admission to examination.
